How Long Should A Bra Last?

We had an enquiry in from one of our customers today asking about how long a bra should last for – she was in particular looking at the Empreinte range and had over 30 in her collection but was finding that she was not getting the same support after a while, and the thought of replacing them all was an expensive proposition, and I thought that this information may well be of benefit to many of my customers too.

‘I would have said that from the ranges we sell that Empreinte are regarded as a supplier whose fabric is one where the lifespan has a good expectation regarding longevity, however to put a timescale on this would be difficult and will depend on a number of factors:-

You clearly have a good selection to choose from and there is a school of thought that recommends a bra should be rotated every 2 days, if you have a favourite bra it could be that this is one that you favour and keeps getting chosen.

It also depends on how frequently you wash your bras and how you do. Do you either hand wash your bras or if you do put them in the washing machine do you programme your wash on a 'delicate' cycle with cool water? If you do put your bras in the washing machine, please ensure that you do the catches up at the back to prevent your bra from tangling with your other items of clothing and stretching - a wash bag is ideal for this purpose, putting bras in a tumble dryer will also hasten the deterioration of the elasticity of your bra too.

Another factor to take into consideration is the different style of the bra as the cup sizes alter depending on the range, you will find that the deeper cup of the Thalia full cup bra will give you more shape and support that say the Lily Rose as this has a smaller cup.

Our bust size alters regularly too, and you may find that at certain times of the month you will be different sizes, have you measured yourself recently? Please click here to see our guide to measuring. If you are not wearing the correct sized bra you will not be feeling well supported.

I would recommend that you try sizes 38G and 40F to compare with the 38F you are currently wearing’

It is difficult to assess the lifespan of a bra, and we all treat ours bras differently but do hope that these tips help as always, I am only to happy to assist with any questions.
