I read somewhere yesterday that French women are the biggest buyers of lingerie.... What does that mean? Other than that women in general love their pretties, it simply means that some women like lingerie more than others. There are all sorts of assumptions made from this data about nationality and sexiness...a difficult one to determine and not one that I am going to run with, however....

What I do know is that for French women lingerie is a staple in their wardrobe. Pretty underwear is not something that is at the bottom of the shopping list or neglected like a long overdue manicure. Lingerie is as important as the well cut dress that covers it. Lingerie is part of the ensemble; like the handbag and heels, it all has to work. One of the reasons I know that French girls are big spenders on lingerie is that in every village, town and major city there are more lingerie boutiques than any other. In our small village there are several boutiques selling top brands of lingerie. These boutiques are the ones that seem to endure despite seasonal trade and downturns in the economy.

Lingerie is a win/win purchase and maybe French girls have that figured out. Emotionally, if we feel good on the inside then we feel better on the outside. This is something we all strive for and this same logic should apply to how we dress. Knowing that what is underneath is just as fabulous (if not more) as what is on show gives a spike to the morale and a boost to the confidence....and we all know that confidence is the key to looking fabulous and appealing to others. Dressing is so often not about ourselves; women dress to please the loves in their lives or more often than not their girlfriends. Lingerie does not have to be exclusively for others, it doesn't have to be about our partners, lingerie can be selfish. Wearing gorgeous underwear should not only be for seduction, lingerie should be a weapon of self esteem.

Buying underwear is a bit like buying jeans we need to be in the best mood, we need to have time and we need to be forgiving of our flaws. French girls are not perfect, they have lumps and bumps like the rest of us, but perhaps they are kinder to themselves. Our bodies will never be as we want them, that is a curse (rightly or wrongly) that women live with, but wearing pretty lingerie is not reserved for the perfect body; pretty lingerie can be worn by all. In France I have noticed that the most exquisite pieces of lingerie come in all sizes and unlike fashion, underwear does not enforce unspoken rules about who can and who can't. There is a sense of liberation in knowing that you can buy exactly what you like in the size you need; French girls know this, we should too. xv

Plus Size Stockings–A Great Corset Accent

Exploring the Corset – Day 8



No corset is complete without stockings.

This fun and sexy lamp proves the point. This lamp sits on the desk of a lingerie shop in Paris…..too adorable! Just perfect for the decor.

Stockings match a corset to a tee. All corsets come with detachable garters for stockings. I recommend Berkshire that creates a gorgeous line of stockings in plus sizes.

These are not fishnet like the lamp but a beautiful sheer lace top  or shimmery  thigh high style. The stockings come in black and white.

My favorite style, just because they are so unusual, is their unique stocking with a lace garter built in. This style comes in black, white and RED!
Remember that  the garters on the corset are removable so this style is a perfect fit.

Stockings are an everyday choice for many full figured women. Because plus size panty hose are often poor fitting, a stocking is a logical option for comfort.
The holiday season is coming and with it the time to dress up.

You may not want to wear a lampshade but you might like to experiment with a corset and stockings.

  This model is back stage in Moscow preparing for the runway at the Salon du       Chocolate show.

 This highlights a wonderful fashion innovation as well as extreme chocolate making skills.

 Notice the bows on the shoes are even made of chocolate.




    This delicious corset  is the ultimate in chocolate couture.

The Salon du Chocolate began 13 years ago. It is a showcase for hundreds of European chocolatiers where they let their imagination and creativity, go wild.

Although the biggest show is in Paris, there are also shows in New York, Tokyo and Moscow.

The Long Silence

Full Moon in Paris

I have been away from my laptop and missing the comfort of being connected. I have, however, been in Fashion Overload. ….. How perfect!



A trip to Paris is an adventure in fashion and beauty. I am charmed by all the wonderful, tiny details that abound in the city of lights. Life unfolds as a slow ritual unchanged by the years.



   


Difficult as it is I am back to life as I know it. I said goodbye to ancient cobblestone streets, red and white street cafes, priceless master pieces, champagne at lunch and haute couture window shopping.


So sad!

Woman in Paris

I was in Paris this summer and I love Paris. It is now my favourite place in the world. Women in Paris really know how to age beautifully. I was sitting in a charming café having ordered a glass of champagne at lunch time….. I was on holiday and although it seemed very extravagant to order champagne at lunch, no one else seemed to even notice. That is Paris.

I was relaxing, enjoying the street activity outside. The owner of the café was wandering from table to table chatting with patrons. She appeared to be in her mid to late sixties, tall, slim, fashionable and very French. She wore a vibrant blue, thin slinky knit dress in a body hugging low cut style. She wore high heel shoes in red leather, of course. I was contemplating the unique way Parisian women are sexy and regal at all ages. As I was admiring her back from my table, she bent forward to remove a wine glass and I was thunderstruck! Through the sensual knit fabric of her dress showed the heavy lace of the thong she wore.

How wonderful. Mid sixties, high heels and a thong….. I want to be French!
