Washing Bras

I was reading an article published by the Telegraph recently and discovered a survey that was completed on behalf of a well known detergent, with interest. The survey was completed on women between the ages of 20 - 65, and discovered that, on average women have 16 bras in their underwear drawer, and again on average, topping up with 4 more per year, spending £2,700 in her lifetime on bras. However, when it comes to washing the item that we spend so much time and money we appear to be sadly lacking in lavishing the same amount of care. On average, those surveyed only washed their bra after having worn it seven times over an eight week period which equates to a bra being washed six times per year.

I know that some of AmpleBosom.com customers are rather afraid of washing their bras in their washing machines and do not find the time to hand wash those that say they ought to be, and with 55% of bras bought being White, it would not be long before they take on a grey hue if not washed and refreshed. I wrote a blog a little while ago about using Fairy Snow to keep your whites white and you may want to consider using a bra washing bag in your washing machine to protect your underwear, these bra washing containers are usually made of mesh, and helps to keep your lingerie together and prevents snagging with other items should you wish to, make sure that the clasps are closed, and wash similar colours together, when drying try to air dry them to keep their shape. It would be a good idea if a washing machine manufacturer headed up one of their programmes called 'Bra Wash' as this may encourage the people surveyed to wash their bras more frequently.

Some of our suppliers provide bra washer bags with their bras, but if you would like to purchase one please do get in touch, alternatively you could consider using a pillowcase and tying a knot in the top once you have put your selection in, but please do wash your bras!

If you would like any help and advice about bras then you can visit the Ample Bosom website online, email or call on 01439 798388 and one of the team will be more than happy to advise you.
