Are You Getting Enough Sleep

Are you getting enough sleep? I thought I would pose this question as the nights are quite hot at the moment and this can make sleeping difficult. There are many reasons why people don't get enough sleep - children waking in the night (my lads are grown up now so I don't suffer with this one!), worrying about things, aches and pains, watching late night TV, eating too late, noisy neighbourhood (we only have the sheep and cattle as our neighbours, so we can't use this as an excuse for lack of sleep!), snoring, getting to hot and the list goes on....

So what can we do to help ourselves get a good nights sleep?

Here are a few tips and things to try to help aid sleep:
  1. Re-arrange your bedroom (give your bedroom the feng shui treatment) so that your bed is away from a draughty window or away from the door.
  2. Tidy your room as keeping a clean and tidy bedroom will help to create a relaxed atmosphere.
  3. Have a bath before bedtime to help you relax, why not even try some scented candles in the bathroom or some relaxing bubblebath.
  4. Check your mattress is comfortable and supportive and not uncomfortable and old.
  5. For the ladies, you may want to support your breasts at night especially if you have a large bust. There are sleep bras available which are either pull on or front fastening with soft trims and flat seams for extra comfort.
  6. Try not to eat or drink fizzy drinks, caffeine or alcohol after 8pm if you want a good nights sleep - treat yourself to a hot milky drink before bedtime.
  7. Regular exercise can help you feel sleepy but don't exercise too late as this will get the adrenalin pumping!
  8. Wear comfortable nightwear - why not try some cotton nightwear or strappy nightdresses with thin straps and loose fitting nightwear that is airy as this will help to keep you cool.
  9. For those who have a partner who snores or a noisy neighbourhood then why not invest in some earplugs.
